Donald Trump has become the official Republican Party nominee for President of the United States. In a vote at the Party's National Convention in Cleveland, he secured enough delegates to take on the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, for the White House in November. CCTV America’s Nathan King reports.

When Donald Trump received enough delegate votes to make him the official nominee, there was obviously a great sigh of relief in the hall, not only from Trump and his family, but also the Republican leadership. There is no squabble anymore and it’s forward to the general election.

He’s made history, having just entered politics: Donald Trump is now just one step away from the White House. He thanked the delegates via video link and he’ll be officially accepting the nomination on Thursday.

Trump’s family arrived to at the convention address the crowd in Cleveland and the country, painting a picture of a loving father who could be president.

But the senior politicians in the hall hardly mentioned the name Trump. They know it’s not the now-official nominee who unites the party, but the opponent they have to beat in November.

For the Republicans, uniting against Hillary Clinton create more passion than the Trump candidacy.
