Medellin has gone from being one of Colombia’s most dangerous cities, to one of its most inventive. It’s been upgrading infrastructure and public spaces with creative improvements.

Correspondent Michelle Begue reports on Medellin’s costliest urban plan yet and the obstacles it faces to complete it.

In two decades, Medellin went from being known as the home of drug lord Pablo Escobar to Innovative City of the Year. The city’s makeover can be credited to contemporary urbanism that brings large-scale public works to the city’s underprivileged neighborhoods.   

But as Medellin embarks on its largest urban project to date, not everyone is supportive.
