A new app called Spotluck hopes to help restaurants fill tables on slow days. The app that lets local establishments offer real time discounts when business is slow.

From their base near Washington D.C. the two have so far signed up more than 300 restaurants and have about 50,000 users.

Users lock in the discount on their phones and show it to the server. After the meal, users leave feedback that merchants can access.

Making the app free was key to the Spotluck business model. Thomas said they never considered charging for the app or using advertisements as a revenue source.

Spotluck is now a top download on the Apple store and expansion is in the works.
