Venezuelans head to the polls this Sunday for parliamentary elections and it’s expected to be one of the closest votes in the country’s history.

Venezuela is dealing with several serious economic challenges. Inflation is near 100 percent, although official figures have not been published for nearly a year.

The country is rich in oil, but the sharp fall in commodity prices has left Venezuela without much needed revenue. There are shortages of important goods. Lines of people trying to buy basics such as toilet paper and food are commonplace throughout the country.
