Author Diane Francis on the new Canada

Justin Trudeau, the new Prime Minister of Canada, is sworn into office more than two weeks after a convincing election win. His economic plan ousted former prime minister Stephen Harper, ending nearly a decade of conservative rule.

He touted a tax cut aimed at two parent households with a single income. His move to stay the course on a balanced federal budget drew criticism, especially since Bank of Canada moved twice this year to cut rates in order to stimulate the economy.

For more on Trudeau’s start as prime minister and the Canadian economy, CCTV America’s Michelle Makori spoke to Diane Francis. She’s an author and journalist, and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.
