Children’s rights groups in India are highly critical of the government’s new budget – which allocates just three percent to support the welfare of children. Activists say this means big cuts – to critical programs that were already under-funded. CCTV’s Ravinder Bawa filed this report from New Delhi.
Highlights:
- This year there has been a cut of almost 30 percent in the budget for children’s health, education and protection.
- Most of the flagship welfare programs for children have seen major cuts , with the Integrated Child Development Services getting hardest hit – facing a reduction of about 50 percent.
