Environmentalists worry about Mexico’s new airport project

Mexico’s government is about to build a new $9 billion international airport on a nearby lake bed to replace Benito Juarez International Airport. However, worries are emerging that mega project will be harmful to the environment. CCTV America’s Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City.

About 30 million passengers travel in the current airport each year. The government says the new international airport scheduled for construction next year will have six runways and eventually transport up to 60 million passengers.

President Enrique Nieto has been using environmental buzz words, and promising the mega project will be environmentally friendly. However, environmental experts say an abundance of wildlife situated on the proposed construction site will be affected.
