Suspected terror attack kills soldier in Canada

In Canada, one soldier was dead and another was seriously injured after a suspected extremist attack in Quebec, just outside Montreal. The man drove over two service personnel, before being shot dead by the police. CCTV America’s Kristiaan Yeo reports.

Martin Couture-Rouleau, 25, allegedly ran them down Monday with his car as they left a military support services center in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a city in eastern Montreal. Following a dramatic chase, Rouleau was shot dead by police.

Canadian security services believe Rouleau had been radicalized. Neighbors said he recently converted to Islam.

On a Facebook page, Rouleau apparently set-up last year under the name ‘Ahmad the Converted,’ he denounced Christianity, Judaism and atheism and incited he hate against anyone opposed to Islam.

Security officials have long expressed concerns about the threat of radicalized young men opposed to Canada’s role in the Middle East. Last month, six Canadian fighter jets joined the U.S.-led campaign against Islamic State militants in Iraq.

In Ottawa, ministers admit Rouleau was known to authorities, although the nature and extent of that knowledge is unclear. Canada’s Prime Minister promised a thorough investigation.
