Despite ISIL’s attempts to recruit doctors to its cause, medical care was limited to the very basics under the extremist group’s rule.

CCTV’s Jack Barton has this report from the edge of Mosul where many people are now seeking the medical care they’ve denied for more than two years.

Iraqi’s wait on the roadside just east of Mosul’s city limits many are waiting for a ride to the safety of nearby camps, others seeking something they were deprived of for more than two years under ISIL: proper medical care.

More than 30,000 people have so far managed to flee Mosul, and the surrounding areas, but the Iraqi army still holds only hold a fraction of the city and the United Nations estimates perhaps one million people remain trapped inside.

There’s still anger even though ISIL is now gone.

In nearby Mosul, the offensive has ground down to a crawl and it’s unclear how long people trapped in the city who urgently need medical care are going to have to wait.
