Yellowstone National Park is a draw for the estimated 3 million Chinese visitors expected to tour the U.S. this year, according to the Boyd Group aviation consulting firm. And that number is growing.

Those attending the recent International Aviation Forecast Summit were told rising incomes could boost the number of Chinese tourists visiting America to 6.5 million by 2020.

It seems the two main priorities for Chinese tourists visiting the U.S. are sightseeing and shopping. And those tourists spend more than your typical visitor – over $13,000 per person, per trip.

Summit organizer Mike Boyd said 10-year visas have made travel easier to the U.S. but he believed tourist demand from China isn’t even close to being met.

He said many U.S. airports aren’t geared to handle Chinese visitors. There was also a capacity ceiling: a limit on the number of flights between China and the U.S.

This statistic shows the number of visitors to the United States from China from 2002 to 2020. In 2013, there were approximately 1.81 million visitors from China to the U.S. This figure was forecasted to rise above 5.02 million in 2020.
