The Heat: Russia, Ukraine relations

The Heat

It’s been two years since diplomatic efforts began to stop the fighting in Eastern Ukraine, after Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

The first ceasefire came in September of 2014 with the Minsk Protocol signed by Russia, Ukraine and rebel representatives.

That was followed by a second Minsk agreement in February 2015 with the help of Germany and France.

With each agreement, a ceasefire was issued and each time failed to bring peace.

Now, there are renewed efforts to resume talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

For more on what’s happening on the ground, CCTV’s Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.
