Volcanic islands in Mexico preserve the past

Americas Now

Four volcanic islands known for their unique ecosystem and marine species, lie in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Mexico.

They are called the Revillagigedo Islands. And their waters are rich with fish. The islands are also a great resource for sulfur and guano (or bat droppings) which help plants to grow.

The islands were upgraded from a biosphere reserve to a World Heritage Site in July 2016.

Take a look at some images of this “natural” treasure.
