Amidst recession, Brazil gaming convention expects record attendance

Organizers of the Brazil Game Show, the biggest video gaming convention in the country, said attendance this year is way up and will likely break the 300,000 mark set in 2015, despite the fact that the country is in the midst of an economic crisis.

There’s a great battle for attention raging in Brazil. Big companies, independent producers and shops of all sorts and size bring out their big guns to catch the eyes, ears and money of the crowds of gaming enthusiasts who come to Brazil’s biggest industry event.

Although Brazil is in its worst recession in decades, you wouldn’t know it from the bright lights and loud noises of the Brazil Game Show. The organizers say ticket sales and spending haven’t shown any signs of a slowdown.

The event’s CEO said visitors may have less money in their pockets this year but still follow their hearts when spending it.

The Xbox director for Brazil said the economic crisis did not affect his company’s performance this year, or its plans for the future.
