Distinction between ICJ and Arbitral Tribunal on South China Sea

A former judge with the International Court of Justice, or ICJ, tells CCTV the result announced by the Arbitral Tribunal isn’t a U.N. decision.

Judge Abdul Koroma said it’s important to distinguish between the ICJ and the tribunal.

CCTV’s Liu Xin spoke to him outside the Peace Palace, the seat of the ICJ.

“The Int’l Court of Justice is the U.N. organ. The arbitral tribunal is the award that was handed down yesterday was not a U.N. ruling. The PCA is the administration organ of the arbitral tribunal,” he said.
