Marijuana has been legalized in Colombia for medicinal and scientific use. But is Colombia ready?

Last year, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos signed a law that legalized the growth and sale of medicinal marijuana. He joins Latin American countries like Uruguay who hope to take the illegal drug out of the hands of drug traffickers and circulate it responsibly. Santos also said it’s a good example of “using natural resources to fight disease.”

Correspondent Michelle Begue has more on Colombia’s decriminalization of marijuana and it could impact the medical community and Colombian citizens.

Smoking marijuana, or cannabis, is not the only way to consume the drug. Products containing cannabis now include creams, oils, sprays and shampoos.
