Two killed in Paris stabbing by man claiming ISIL affiliation

A day after the Orlando massacre, a French police commander and his female companion have been killed in an attack claimed by ISIL. The assailant had known jihadist links and was under security surveillance at the time of the attack.

The quiet residential suburb of Magnanville, about 55 km 934 miles) north-west of Paris, is now the scene of a brutal double murder.

A police commander and his partner, who was a civil servant at the Interior Ministry, were stabbed to death at their home. Their 3-year-old son survived.

The attacker was identified by police as Larossi Abballa, a 25 year-old Frenchman of Moroccan origin, who had a previous conviction for jihad recruitment activities.

Authorities say he had recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State militant group.

The killings come as France is on high security alert for the Euro 2016 tournament which kicked off last Friday.

Larossi Abball referred to the football championship in a video he posted on Facebook. “We will make the Euros a cemetery,” he said. The video, which has now been removed, also shows the killer inside his victims’ house. And he can be heard wondering what to do with the couple’s young son.
