Solarin smartphone promises high-level security for $17K

World Today

Wherever you go in the world, you are likely to see people using smartphones. But you’ve probably not seen a phone like Solarin, the latest device to hit the market, which offers some unique perks with an eye-popping price to match.

CCTV’s Frances Kuo reports.

Searching for a phone that takes technology to a whole new level? Solarin, made by Sirin Labs, a British-Isreali startup, has got your number.

“We think it’s one of the most impressive phones, period,” Moshe Hogeg, Sirin Labs co-founder, said.

It is particularly impressive because of the price tag — about $17,000. But Solarin’s creators said it’s well worth it.

“Because it’s made of the most advanced technologies, because it’s made of the most fine materials, it has a price tag and manufacturing costs, which is multiples of the costs of mass market phones,” Tal Cohen, co-founder and CEO of Sirin Mobile Technologies, said.

With its steep price tag, this smartphone is not for the average consumer. Instead, Sirin believes it will have a market among executives, particularly in the U.S. and Europe. Many luxury smartphones already on the market are seen as status symbols — embellished to look good on the surface. But Sirin executives said its device has the goods, both inside and out.
