The company Basura Cero calls their recycling process 360 degrees. They take Mexico’s trash and convert or refurbish it to meet a multitude of daily needs, from park benches and furniture, to washing machines and even notebooks.

They’ve even figured out how to recycle the chip bags, water bottles and trays from one of Mexico’s biggest movie theater chains.

Now, they have contracts with five companies -a change from almost a decade ago when they had a hard time convincing anyone their business could work.

They have 200 items in their line of recyclable products. But it’s still just a fraction of what needs to be done to make Mexico truly sustainable.

But all of Basura Cero’s top clients made them sign nondisclosure agreements regarding which of their products are recycled.

According the company, many clients are leery of letting the public know that the water bottle they’re sipping on or the bags that hold their snacks were recycled.

It’s a concern that the Mexican public will need overcome before they can fully embrace a sustainable future.
