US cruise ship makes historic dock in Havana

Cuba

A historic moment in U.S.-Cuba relations as an American cruise ship has docked in Havana for the first time in nearly 40 years.

CCTV America’s Nitza Soledad Perez reports.

The Carnival cruise ship, Adonia, entered Havana’s port – a first for such a U.S. vessel in decades.

Passengers were thrilled and for Carnival Corporation officials, this was more than a commercial victory.

After an emotional arrival and a smooth customs clearing, American tourists were received by a very cheerful Cuban crowd who’s hoping that this new wave of American tourists will improve their economic situation.

The nearly 600 tourists on board began their people-to-people exchanges. Their Cuba immersion cruise will continue through two more Cuban cities over the next week, starting a new chapter of possibilities between Cuban and American citizens
