A physically-challenged athlete from Guatemala scales new heights

Americas Now

This week’s Game Changer on “Americas Now” is an athlete from Guatemala who won’t allow his disability to derail his dreams. He’s climbing high, doing what he loves and helping at-risk kids move upward too. Meet extreme sportsman Juan Carlos Perez.

Perez has competed in 200 kilometer runs, climbed volcanoes, and played in many extreme sports.  He’s confined to a wheelchair but Juan Carlos’ physical condition hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his athletic goals.

In addition, Juan Carlos Perez’s has also started an outreach program for kids to help them reach their own potential as well. Some 200 volunteers from around the world have traveled to Guatemala to help Juan Carlos with his education program.
