Taliban attack kills 64 and injures hundreds in Kabul

The death toll surged a day after Tuesday’s Taliban attack. Original estimate were at 28, but the Afghan government said as many as 64 have died and another 347 were wounded.

The death toll surged a day after Tuesday's Taliban attack. Original estimate were at 28, but the Afghan government said as many as 64 have died and another 347 were wounded. The impact of this latest episode of violence may yet further claim some political victims. CCTV's Catherine James reports.

It was one of the biggest terrorist attacks by number of casualties in Afghanistan since 2001.

It struck in the heart of the capital city Kabul, only a few hundred meters from the Presidential Palace.

The majority of the casualties were civilians, most of whom were brought to hospitals.
