Government supporters stand by Rousseff during impeachment vote

Impeached, but still hanging on to high office, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s fate Tuesday lay in the hands of the country’s Senate.

The situation wasn’t looking good for her government, but she and her supporters said they’re not going down without a fight.

Government supporters who came to protest the impeachment dismantled their camps and prepared to go home. Some said they consider the impeachment vote a temporary defeat.

Government officials and allies said they will keep up the fight to stop the impeachment process in the Senate. However, most admit it’s going to be an uphill struggle.


Embattled Brazilian president takes case to media

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff gave a press conference to the foreign media Tuesday to reaffirm her intention to fight her impeachment, even if many of her allies admit she is unlikely to survive the process.
