11 people were reported missing in southern Japan, following its two powerful earthquakes. The death toll has risen to 42.
Japanese rescuers are being joined by members of the 50-thousand-strong U.S. military based in the country. Overnight rainfall brought misery to many who have evacuated their homes.
But it did not cause any more landslides, as had been feared, and skies have cleared. More than a-thousand buildings have been damaged.
