Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Washington, D.C. to attend a two-day Nuclear Security Summit.

The Chinese leader is joining delegations from more than 50 countries to address securing nuclear materials and the threat of nuclear terrorism.

Thursday afternoon, President Xi met with U.S. President Barack Obama for bilateral talks at the Washington Convention Center.

The Heat interviewed Ambassador Gary Locke. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to China from 2011 to 2014, was appointed U.S. Commerce Secretary in the Obama administration and is the former Governor of Washington State.

The Heat also interviewed the following guests about China’s foreign policy and diplomacy:

  • Nong Hong, the executive director and senior fellow at the Institute for China-America Studies.
  • Stephen Perry, the chairman of the 48th Group Club and a writer and commentator on China.
  • Jia Xiudong, a senior research fellow with the China Institute of International Studies.
