Second-place Peruvian presidential candidate barred from running

World Today

Just a month from Peru’s presidential elections, the country’s electoral board has barred the second-placed candidate Julio Guzman from the race over a technical error. But the disqualified candidate says he will fight the decision.

CCTV’s Dan Collyns reports from Lima.

For a growing number of Peruvians, Guzman was the hope for a better future in Peru. Many of his supporters still believe he is.

Guzman says he will never give up his bid to stay in the presidential race and his supporters say his disqualification is an attack on democracy and tantamount to fraud.
