The wreckage of the plane that crashed in Nepal early Wednesday killing all people on board has been found, the airline said in a statement.
Police located the crashed aircraft in a treacherous terrain of forest in Myagdi. They told Xinhua News Agency that the wreckage was still burning when they located it.
All 23 passengers, including two infants and three crew members, were killed in the crash, according to the statement. A Chinese national from Hong Kong and a Kuwaiti citizen were among the dead.
The aircraft, operated by a private airline, Tara Air, was en route to the mountainous town of Jomson from Pokhara, a popular tourist destination.
The flight departed Pokhara at 7:50 a.m. local time and lost contact after about eight minutes into the flight, the airline said. The flight between Pokhara and Jomsom is approximately 20 minutes.
Flying in Nepal is regarded as highly challenging due to the hilly and mountainous terrains, unpredictable weather and poor navigation system on the ground.
This is the country’s latest aviation disaster since February 2014 when a Nepal Airlines twin otter with 18 people on board crashed while flying to Jumla in mid-west Nepal.
