The Heat: Political outsiders in US presidential race

He ran three times for President of the United States, twice as a Republican and once as a third party candidate. Ron Paul’s libertarian views are those of limited, constitutional government, low taxes and free markets which put him outside the mainstream of American politics.

It makes his take on this year’s race for the White House all the more interesting, but before we get there, if you’ve been following the U.S. presidential election at all, you know the biggest headlines belong to two political outsiders. They are so-called anti-establishment candidates, Republican businessman Donald Trump, and self-described Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders.

According to the latest Quinnipiac University poll, Trump’s lead over his nearest Republican rival has soared to twenty points nationally, while Sanders has pulled into a virtual tie with former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

CCTV America’s Sean Callebs reports.
