The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, typically one month after the start of the Western Gregorian calendar. This year, that’s Feb. 8th.

Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts just before the start of the new year and lasts all the way through two weeks of first month of the year — That means the festival began on Jan. 17, 2016 and will last through Feb.22, 2016.

During these days, the most important are the Spring Festival Eve and the first three days of the new year. The Chinese government now stipulates that people have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year. Here’s a day-by-day guide of Spring Festival customs.
