For nine years finance ministers, stock markets and anyone who uses a credit card have wondered when the U.S. Federal Reserve would raise interest rates.

The long awaited answer came on Wednesday when U.S. Federal Reserve Chair, Janet Yellen announced a quarter point increase.

During the past seven years interest rates have hovered near zero. Now that fewer Americans are out of work, the U.S. “FED” is raising rates.
