Since the mass shootings in San Bernadino, California, anti-muslim rhetoric in the United States has been back in the spotlight, but no comment has been more reviled than one from Republican presidential candidate and businessman, Donald Trump.

Real estate magnate and celebrity Donald J. Trump suggested a temporary and arbitrary halting of those who identify as Muslim from entering the United States until the U.S. government can fully assess the current heightened security situation.

The White House came out today condemning the remarks as a quote: “carnival barker routine.” For Muslim-Americans, who make up about one percent of the U.S. population, it’s cause for incredible concern.
