The Heat: The US Syrian refugee debate

The Heat

In the U.S., the issue of allowing thousands of refugees to resettle in America is dividing the nation.

More than 30 U.S. state governors have declared that they will not allow refugees to settle within their borders.

Polls show more than half of Americans don’t want to allow Syrian refugees into the United States because they believe they pose a security risk.

So who are these refugees? CCTV America’s Roee Ruttenberg reports.

A panel of guests joined The Heat to discuss the politics of the Syrian refugee crisis:

  • Suzanne Meriden is the director of operations for the Syrian American Council.
  • Stephen Yates works for an organization that advises on political risk and international business.
  • Alex Nowrasteh is an immigration policy analyst with the D.C.-based think tank, Cato Institute.
