Brazil vows to reduce carbon emissions by 43%

Brazil is winning international praise, and money, for its successful anti-deforestation projects, but how much more can the South American country do as part of a global effort to avoid climate change.

CCTV’s Paulo Cabral reports from Sao Paulo.

In the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Conference ahead of the General Assembly, President Dilma Rousseff laid out the commitment that Brazil will bring to the climate change summit. It will be a 43 percent drop in carbon emissions and zero deforestation by 2030, they say.

Environmentalists said Brazil should be praised for reducing deforestation in the Amazon, but some of them said the government should set more ambitious goals and look to other ecosystems still under heavy pressure in the country.
