The joint declaration also stressed on preventing terrorism from undermining the values of free and open economies, and called for more global cooperation to defeat terror groups.

During Thursday’s sessions, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged APEC members to enhance “win-win cooperation” and boost world economic growth.

Leaders from other economies have agreed to advance the construction of FTAAP according to the road map issued last year in Beijing when China hosted the APEC summit. APEC leaders say they will continue to create an open environment for trade and investment, enhance multilateral trade mechanisms, and say no to protectionism in any form.

Speaking at the final press conference for the APEC meeting, Philippine President Benigno Aquino said the leaders have brought existing regional partnerships to a new level and are committed to taking joint actions in areas such as corruption.

During the closing session, host nation the Philippines also passed the responsibility of hosting APEC 2016 to Peru.

Juan Raffo, chairman of the APEC Business Advisory Council 2016, said that the South American country’s economy has been a real showcase of success over the last eight years, adding 2016 will be an opportunity for all APEC members to get to know Peru better.

Raffo says next year’s meeting will focus on “human development and quality growth.”

The two-day APEC meeting in Manila saw more than 800 delegates, including the leaders of member economies, entrepreneurs and businessmen who all discussed various ways to seek better regional economy growth.
