Shanghai wants to become global smart manufacturing hub

Global Business

Shanghai recently announced plans to become a smart manufacturing center, and introduced policies aimed and helping to make it possible.

In June, the city rolled out a series of measures to help turn Shanghai into a global science and innovation center over the next few years, with a focus on smart manufacturing. Earlier this month, the city’s Lingang area announced a number of preferential policies to build itself into a global center for smart manufacturing by 2020.

There are currently more than 1,000 start-up projects focusing on smart manufacturing in Shanghai, but only a few dozens have successfully found investors and entered the market.

The core problem is the technology. A lack of investment also makes it hard to put these projects into mass production. Many investors are looking for good projects in the area now that the government has announced policies to promote the industry.
