China’s car-hailing apps receive official recognition

Global Business

The fight for market share between China’s car-hailing apps is a fierce one. By far the biggest player, Didi Kuaidi has obtained the country’s first license to provide such services, giving it yet another advantage over all its competitors.

The service, also called Zhuanche in Chinese, is a location-based car-for-hire service run on mobile applications. In the past, many viewed the Zhuanche service part of the unregulated grey market, because many drivers use their own private cars, which by law are forbidden to carry passengers for profit.

ICS’s Mi Jiayi reports from Shanghai for CCTV America.
