A sewage water pipe burst in Qinhuangdao City, north China’s Hebei Province on Saturday, cutting off water supply and causing traffic congestion.

The pipe burst and formed a fountain-like water column of about 20 meters (65 feet) high and caused pools of water on roads.

The burst was triggered due to excavation of sewer for a restaurant remodeling, according to a construction worker.

“We have dug about 50 centimeters (19 inches) deep. More than a dozen minutes after our work when we are about to take lunch, it bursts suddenly. We are not clear of the exact reason and we will check it after the water goes clear,” said the construction worker.

The water company has switched off the supply to the area.
