China’s ‘golden week’ of tourism sees record numbers

World Today

The first week of October has long been one of the highest periods for tourism in China due to the seven-day National Day holiday.

On the first day of the 2015 National Day holiday, 12.5 million passengers in China traveled by train, a year-on-year rise of 6.9 percent, which sets a new daily record. Parks, mountains, and other tourism sites have been fully packed with people.

On Tai Mountain, a natural attraction in east China’s Shangdong province, park cleaners were found picking up trash while hanging from ropes off the sides of cliffs, risking their lives to keep the area clean.
