President Ellen Sirleaf, Liberia’s “Iron Lady”

Global Business

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has a lot to say about women’s empowerment and what it means to be a female political leader.

Sirleaf is the first democratically elected female President in Africa and a 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Winner who has been politically active for over 40 years. Sirleaf’s presidency has attracted investment of over $16 billion in Liberia’s mining, agriculture, forestry and off-shore oil exploration sectors, resulted in over $4 billion in debt relief and led to the lifting of U.N. trade sanctions and the construction of more than 800 miles of roads.

CCTV America’s Shraysi Tandon started by asking the president why she is regarded as Liberia’s Iron Lady.
