A Colombian artist whose eco-friendly art sends a message

Artist Andres Hoyos. Artist Andres Hoyos.

You could call Andres Hoyos an eco-artist. Not only does he “wow” spectators with his unconventional creations, he’s helping save the planet too. Andres recycles discarded items and turns them into art.

Andres hopes his artwork sparks the public’s interest in recycling.  His goal is to help people realize that different items, as in life, have more than one purpose.

An example of one of his works is an old chair which he covered with stamps. His design almost makes them look like ceramic tile. He says he likes using stamps because they create a “mystique.”

Born in Colombia, Andres studied art in Barcelona and at the Arts Student League in New York City. He now resides in Brooklyn, NY.

Check out this week’s Urban Voice Andres Hoyos whose work appeals to the eye and the environment.
