The Zhijiang Campaign was the Japanese invasion of west Hunan and the subsequent Chinese counterattack that occurred between April and June 1945.

The battles ended with Japan’s retreat and led to its surrender in the China theater. CCTV’s Tang Bo filed this report.


Chinese veteran recounts fight against Japanese occupation

In the first few months of Japan’s 1937 invasion, China’s Kuomintang government army, facing the well-trained and modernized Japanese forces, lost over a million soldiers and vast swaths of territory. Local Communist forces fought a guerrilla war from behind the enemy lines, causing major damage to Japanese supply routes. CCTV’s Han Peng filed this report.
