The race to succeed president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Argentina is heating up. In Sunday’s primaries, none of the candidates had enough support to win outright in the first round.

CCTV America’s Joel Richards reports from Buenos Aires on the latest battle to replace the president who has served two terms and steps down later this year.

More details:

  • With majority of ballots counted, official results showed the Victory Front party candidate Daniel Scioli winning with 38 percent of the vote. Let’s Change Alliance headed by Mauricio Macri secured 30 percent of the vote. And from the UNA coalition, Sergio Massa, a former cabinet chief, received 20 percent.
  • High inflation, an international legal battle with holdouts, crime, and education are among the key issues debated ahead of the elections.
