Travelers Box introduced for visitors at Israel’s main airport

Israel’s main airport is now using Travelers Box, which helps tourists change leftover money into their native currency, without paying inflated fees. It also allows them to donate their spare change to charity.  CCTV’s Stephanie Freid filed this report.

Highlights:

  • Travelersbox was conceptualized two years ago by three Israeli friends while they were hanging out watching basketball on T.V. Perplexed by the jar of foreign coins taking up space on the coffee table, they came up with a solution for all that spare change.
  • Today they have dozens of kiosks at airports in Italy, the UK, Turkey, Bulgaria and Georgia – by the end of 2015 they plan to penetrate airports in Brazil, the U.S.A. and Asia
  • Profit derives from up to 15 percent commissions charged for each transaction – a sum affiliates rather than customers will eventually absorb. Donations – like the recent Nepal Earthquake campaign – are commission-free.
