Authorities in Tibet have been collecting ancient texts aimed at preserving their heritage in the fields of medicine, astronomy and astrology. The ultimate goal is to build a central repository by 2020. CCTV’s Li Wenwen filed this report.
Highlights:
- So far the Tibetan Medicine College has traveled across Tibet collecting more than 600 volumes of ancient texts from temples, villages and scholars.
- The college has published 30 books, including China’s Traditional Tibetan Medical Texts, which is considered vital to the study of Tibetan traditional medicine.
- The Tibetan system of medicine boasts a history of nearly 4 thousand years. In 2006, it was listed as part of the national intangible culture heritage.
