Tibet authorities working hard to preserve heritage

Authorities in Tibet have been collecting ancient texts aimed at preserving their heritage in the fields of medicine, astronomy and astrology. The ultimate goal is to build a central repository by 2020. CCTV’s Li Wenwen filed this report.

Highlights:

  • So far the Tibetan Medicine College has traveled across Tibet collecting more than 600 volumes of ancient texts from temples, villages and scholars.
  • The college has published 30 books, including China’s Traditional Tibetan Medical Texts, which is considered vital to the study of Tibetan traditional medicine.
  • The Tibetan system of medicine boasts a history of nearly 4 thousand years. In 2006, it was listed as part of the national intangible culture heritage.
