It’s tradition in China for women who have just given birth to rest at home for about a month.A part of that recovery tradition is to have loved ones provide meals to the new mothers.
Companies are supporting that tradition by selling specially-made meals. Subscriptions for those meals can cost more than $4,800 a month. CCTV’s Audrey Siek filed this report.

Highlights:

  • Unlike the traditional way of cooking at home, the preparation of these meals made in a central kitchen has to begin at least a day ahead of delivery.
  • There are more than a dozen companies in the market providing home delivery of specialty meals for new mothers.
  • The industry is estimated to have a market value of more than $160 million.
