A beauty contest of a different nature took place on Thursday as around 10,000 goldfish with exotic featured vied for the title of “Miss Goldfish” in Fuzhou, capital of southeast China’s Fujian Province.

Breeds such as panda butterfly, pearlscales, and ranchus were just some of the contestants from across China hoping to win in 16 categories.

The criteria for the highest rank of “Miss Goldfish” were on features, color, figure, swimming appearance, and general impression.

About 100 goldfish in the contest were estimated at 10,000 yuan or more than $1,600 each. Goldfish from Fuzhou are often exported to Japan, Singapore and other countries.
