Strong quake rocks Sichuan Province

The China Earthquake Networks Center said a 5.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Yuexi County, in the province of Sichuan, at 9:23 a.m. Wednesday morning (1:23 a.m. GMT).

Reports on damages and casualties were not immediately known as rescuers scrambled to reach the epicenter of the earthquake to check for the effects of the ground moving.

The Center said the earthquake’s epicenter was registered at 28.4 degrees north and 102.8 degree east of Yuexi County. The earthquake’s origin has not been known as of this posting.

The Provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan in China are no strangers to earthquakes, as earth movings are reported almost every day.
