Will the US launch airstrikes against the Islamic State in Syria?

Intelligence gathered by U.S. military surveillance flights over Syria could support a broad bombing campaign beyond Iraq against the Islamic State militant group.

But current and former U.S. officials differ on whether airstrikes would be the best option. On Tuesday, a U.S. official said that an American man believed to have been killed in Syria was there to fight alongside the Islamic State.
