One company that is continuing operations despite that rocket attack is EL AL.

Israel’s national carrier has one of the most sophisticated anti-missile systems ever installed on commercial aircraft because of a similar such threat from the not-so-distant past. Stephanie Freid has this report from Tel Aviv.

The decision by many airlines to discontinue flying to Israel happened well after the latest conflict began.
But tourists have continued to visit Israel, even with a ground offensive underway.

Some individual business owners fear their summer income has been wiped out, but it’s unclear yet how much tourism overall will be affected.

Israel typically receives around 3.5 million tourists a year. By June, around 1.5 million had visited.

The U.S. makes up around 20 percent of visitors, so the ban on U.S. airlines flying there for now is likely to impact that figure.

Russia, France, Germany and the UK also send a large number of visitors, and vast majority arrive by air.
